2097 – a chandelier for the future?looking at the 2097 chandelier, one would probably not think at first glance that the design for this slightly futuristic lighting object dates back to 1958. It would be much more likely to date it to the year 2097 – according to its name. However, the Italian engineer and designer Gino Sarfatti (1912 – 1984) certainly already had the future in mind with this reduction of the magnificent, classic chandelier. The rudimentary characteristics of a chandelier – as chandeliers are also often called – are still present, but in a very puristic form. 50 curved arms are attached to the core of the chandelier by crossbars. At the end of each arm sits a small light source in the form of E14 bulbs. Gino Sarfatti is one of the veterans of the design team of the Italian manufacturer FLOS. In his thirty-year career as a designer, Sarfatti has designed over 400 lamps.
